CommentsHERNDEN, John Robert "Jack" In loving memory of John Robert "Jack" Hernden, 82 years of Sudbury who passed away Saturday morning, April 2nd, 2005 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Center. He was born in Little Rapids and married Marion (Marsh) in 1982 in Sault Ste. Marie. A longtime Sault Ste. Marie resident Jack moved to Sudbury in 2002. A proud Canadian he served overseas during WWII with the Essex-Scottish Regiment. He was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #25 in the Soo and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br #76 Sudbury and the War Pensioners of Canada. He had been a well known and respected sales person at various companies for many years retiring in 1988. He had been a member of the ACT/UCT and the Soo Kinsmen Club. Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter, and gardener. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home. He was a great friend and advocate to children. Jack will be remembered for his good sense of humour, his tremendous work ethic and punctuality and opinions which reflected the spirit of his Scottish heritage. Beloved husband of Marion (Marsh) Hernden of Sudbury and the late Doris (Hogem) Hernden predeceased 1979. Loving father of Sonja (husband Dave Heintzman). Cherished grandfather of Tim and Dean. Special stepfather to Geoff Goodman (wife Brenda) and Russ Goodman. Dear step grandfather of Selena and Darrell; great grandchild Justin. Dear son of John and Eliza (McLennan) Hernden predeceased. Dear brother of Alice Shaule and Mack Hernden (wife Doreen) both of Sault Ste. Marie and the late Tom, Millie, Ida and Hector all predeceased. Sadly missed by loving nieces and nephews. Funeral visitation at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St., Wednesday, April 6th, 2005 2-5; 7-9 p.m. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #76 Sudbury. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
CommentsMessage from Judy McKay (Uncle Mack's daughter): Marion told me there will be a commital in the Soo as they had purchased a plot and marker before they ever left here. When she could arrange to have the gravesite opened, he will be buried here at the Greenwood Cemetary. Judy
CommentsFor anyone that has not seen tonight's newspaper (http://www.sootoday.com ), Jack's commital service will be held Friday, Apr. 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetary. I was happy to see that Hector's name had not been missed in this obit. I don't have everyone's email address so if you could notify your brothers and sisters I would appreciate it. I just had a call from Marion. She wanted everyone to know the service will not be graveside but in the chapel which I think is at corner of Peoples Rd and Fourth Line. After the service, there will be a reception at Harbourview for all to attend. She said they will not be able to stay too long as they are returning home that day Judy (McKay)
